Sharjah Airport reports six million passengers in H1 2022 – Business Traveller

Sharjah Airport reported that it had handled six million passengers in H1 2022. That figure represents a 142.74 per cent rise in its passenger traffic compared to H1 2021 where it recorded only 2.449 million passengers.

Additionally, the number of flights at the airport grew significantly as well. There were a total of 41,189 aircraft operating in H1 2022, an 89.73 per cent year-on-year increase compared to 21,709 in the same period last year.

Between January and June, Sharjah Airport also handled over 96,000 tons of cargo, accounting for an increase of 50.39 per cent compared to 63,844 tons it handled the previous year.

“The figures represent the confidence and trust that a large number of travellers place in Sharjah Airport. This is mainly achieved in collaboration with our strategic partners, the various stakeholder and service providers at Sharjah Airport, as well as the key role of the airline community, including Air Arabia, the UAE national carrier based in Sharjah Airport, which has successfully recommenced their operations to various destinations in their network and has resulted in the growing the number of passengers at the airport,” said Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority.

Air Arabia had reported a Q1 2022 net profit of Dhs291 million, a 756 per cent year-on-year increase over the Dhs34 million it posted in Q1 2021. The airline’s turnover was recorded at Dhs1.12 billion in the period between January-March 2022, a 97 per cent increase in turnover compared to the first quarter of the previous year. More than 2.4 million passengers flew with Air Arabia between January and March 2022 across the carrier’s five hubs, an 86 per cent increase compared to a total of 1.3 million passengers carried in the first quarter of last year.
