Birmingham airport releases timelapse video of security hall build – Business Traveller

Birmingham airport (BHX) has published an update on the construction of its new £50 million security hall, alongside a timelapse video of the works.

The airport said that its project team was working 21 hours a day “to get the work done safely and on time”, with a scheduled opening date of June 2024.

The hall will include new CT scanning equipment to ensure the airport complies with DfT rules coming into force next year, as well as a new solar panel-clad across part of the roof which BHX says will provide natural light and help power the terminal with green electricity.

Four 50-person lifts are also being installed to replace existing escalators, which the airports says will improve the walking route to Departures and the air-rail link station area.

The security hall is part of a £300 million capital investment programme at BHX, which will increase the capacity to 18 million passengers per year by 2033.
