Emirates and United expand codeshare to include Mexico – Business Traveller

Emirates has announced an expansion to its current codeshare arrangement with United to include nine destinations in Mexico.

Starting September 14, Emirates customers will have access to eight new destinations in the country, in addition to Mexico City, which the airline already serves.

The expansive codeshare network between Emirates and United currently includes a number of US cities. Mexico becomes the first country outside of the US to be added to that codeshare network.

The latest codeshare expansion allows passengers flying on Emirates to either Chicago or Houston, to connect onwards to destinations in Mexico. Emirates offers daily services to Houston onboard its A380 aircraft. It also operates seven weekly flights between Dubai and Chicago using its widebody Boeing 777.

The new Mexican points to which Emirates customers can now fly to owing to the enhanced codeshare include Cancun, Cozumel, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, San Jose Del Cabo, Leon/Guanajuato, and Queretaro.

Passengers flying to Mexico City can do so either using Emirates’ daily services from Dubai with a stop in Barcelona, or separately book codeshare flights to Mexico City.

Alternatively, the codeshare arrangement also enables customers flying from the nine points in Mexico to connect to destinations on Emirates’ network, via Chicago or Houston.

Emirates says that the most frequented destinations for travellers embarking from points in Mexico include India, Israel, UAE, South Africa and South East Asia.

With the addition of Mexico, the Emirates and United codeshare network now includes 134 destinations, accessible from United’s gateways in the US, while almost 100 additional points across the US, Canada, Central and South America, and the Caribbean are available for customers to choose from on an interline basis.

Emirates activated its codeshare with United in March this year. Under the agreement, Emirates Skywards members can earn and redeem miles on all flights across United’s worldwide network.
