Play launches flights from London Stansted to Boston – Business Traveller

Icelandic low-cost carrier Play has launched flights from London to Boston via Reykjavik.

The service began today (May 11) and took off from London Stansted at 1135, with the journey set to take 11 hours.

The flights will operate to Boston Logan International four times a week, with one-way fares from London starting at £199.

This marks the second transatlantic service to launch, following the inaugural service to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall airport in April.

The airline plans to fly from Stansted to New York Stewart International next month, following by Orlando International on September 30. It will also fly from Liverpool to Orlando from November.

The airline said it has “seen its strongest bookings in recent weeks”, with 37,000 passengers in April – a 54 per cent increase from March.

CEO Birgir Jonsson commented:

“Around the world, tourists and holidaymakers are fuelling an international travel comeback. Expanding our flights to Boston today will support European travellers looking for budget-friendly access to the North East States, allowing them to pay less for their flights and more on the fun activities and excursions that make the trip memorable. As we continue to grow our presence in the US, we look forward to providing travellers with a no-frills approach to travel, where they can expect reliable yet affordable service from PLAY.”

Play currently operates three A320 neo aircraft, with plans to double its fleet by this summer.
