United Airlines to launch Chicago-Athens route – Business Traveller

United Airlines has announced plans to fly between Chicago and Athens this summer.

The US carrier confirmed the route via a social media post in which it said “A new route to Greece? You *feta* believe it!”

United will fly daily between the two cities from 23 May, adding to the airline’s existing seasonal routes from New York’s Newark and Washington Dulles to Athens.

The carrier will go head-to-head with rival American Airlines, which also operates seasonal flights between Chicago and Athens, as well as summer routes from New York JFK and Philadelphia to the Greek capital.

In October last year United announced it would operate its largest ever transatlantic schedules in summer 2024.

The carrier will offer flights to 38 transatlantic cities, including becoming the first and only airline to offer nonstop flights between the US and Faro, with a four-times-weekly service from New York’s Newark airport starting on 24 May.
