Wizz Air adds free tier to Discount Club loyalty programme – Business Traveller

Wizz Air has added a new entry level tier to its existing WIZZ Discount Club loyalty programme.

The Discount Club was launched over a decade ago, and currently offers members a €10 discount on fares above €19.99, and €5 off 20kg and 32kg checked baggage options, in return for a €39.99 yearly fee. A group membership for up to six people is also available for €69.99 per year.

The carrier said that the new WIZZ Discount Club Light had been added “to increase engagement from customers”, and will offer members “exclusive in-flight discounts”, including coupons and promotions for the WIZZ Café and Boutique.

Existing Discount Club members will automatically receive the new offers as part of their paid-for membership, and Wizz said it would “continue to extend the benefits”.

Commenting on the news Wizz Air’s corporate communications manager, Zsuzsa Trubek, said:

“WIZZ Discount Club Light is another way our customers can save money when they choose to fly with WIZZ. The exclusive discounts will offer anyone flying with us great savings on in-flight food and products. We are pleased to be offering this new programme as part of our ultra-low-cost model.”

Low-cost carriers have in the main steered clear of the mainstream concept of loyalty programmes.

EasyJet offers a scheme called easyJet Plus with benefits including allocated seating, fast-track security, speedy boarding and additional cabin baggage allowance for an annual fee of £215 – but the airline doesn’t actively promote the programme and indeed it’s tricky to find a link to it on the easyjet.com website.

Back in 2019 Ryanair launched Ryanair Choice – a €199 per year scheme offering similar benefits to easyJet Plus. But again it’s almost impossible to find details of this on the carrier’s website, and we’re not even sure if it still exists.
