Manchester airport outlines plans for shopping and dining experience at revamped T2 – Business Traveller

The airport said it hoped to announce the final line-up of shops and restaurants at the terminal by April 2024.

They will join a number of outlets which have already opened in areas of the terminal which are already opened to passengers, including burger and shake chain Archie’s, Italian restaurant San Carlo and coffee brand Pot Kettle Black.

The £1.3 billion Manchester Airport Transformation Programme was originally announced in 2015, and the first phase comprising of an extension to Terminal 2 had been scheduled to open in 2020, before being delayed until July 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The second and final phase involves the remodelling and upgrade of the original Terminal 2 building, including a new security hall with 3D scanners, a second pier with additional boarding gates, and a new dual taxiway system designed to improve airfield efficiency.

Once completed, more than 80 per cent of the airport’s passengers will travel through Terminal 2, with the Terminal 1 – which first opened in 1962 – set to close.

Commenting on the news Richard Jackson, retail director at Manchester Airport, said:

“We are well aware that our guests’ holidays start at the airport and we want them to enjoy their time here – whether that means sipping craft beer brewed at the airport in a bar overlooking the airfield, or eating an artisan pizza.

“We already have a great range of food and drink options in Terminal Two, with local brands which create a strong sense of place, but we’re looking to build on that with all-new offerings, including a champagne bar and a market hall style food court.

“We’re also seeking retail partners who will bring a high-class offering, tailored to the needs of the travelling public. The first phase of the project saw some exciting brands come on board, but we’re now keen to build on that and provide a more varied and comprehensive retail experience to cater for the tastes of the millions of passengers who will pass through the terminal’s doors.”
